In the center of Utrecht, the Netherlands, a former squatters' building was converted into a café and hotel. The two buildings have been completely renovated so that elements from the 14th century are once again visible. One of the buildings was built as a city castle at the time. You can still see this in the ancient bricks, niches and even battlements behind which the residents could defend their home.

The monumental building has been given a new purpose as a so-called boutique hotel. The look is unique, and the rooms are all 23 different. All walls are insulated, and the property uses an innovative heating system, with warm south-facing rooms channelling heat to the colder north-facing rooms.
