Tolaro's main strategy is to build a sustainable cashew industry in Benin by sourcing sustainably grown cashews and have all value-adding steps taking place on site, so that fully processed kernels can be exported abroad.

Tolaro's founders are deeply committed to sustainability in its sourcing and production methods as well as to fair treatment of farmers and employees. It also stands out positively for establishing a processing plant on the spot, providing 650 people with permanent employment. The company plans to open a second plant in 2015.

Trade finance from Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund enables Tolaro to pay the farmers upon delivery of their produce.
