Jelwin and Ymkje Kuipers are farmers and owners of Scottish Highlanders and Hereford cows. Their way of farming is different than usual. The cows run in family herds in nature reserves. They do not know stables, concentrates and antibiotics. This way of growing up produces very healthy and sustainable 'grass-fed' natural meat. 99% of the cows are fed concentrates. For this purpose, grain and soy are grown on land that is also suitable for arable farming. This costs a lot of water and results in CO2 emissions and deforestation. When cows grow from grass and herbs in nature reserves, it serves a dual purpose: the natural land is managed, and they convert unprofitable agricultural land into a beautiful product.
